listening

I just went on a pretty manic iTunes buying spree. i gave myself rules though. rule #1: buy something you haven’t heard before. rule #2: buy something old. rule #3: no preview listening. i did pretty well. 3 purchases and i’m happy with all of them. to be fair, i have heard curve before but since i hadn’t heard this particular release i let it in. i bought all three with a new iPod Touch and the experience was so seamless that i barely felt apple as it gently nudged a vacuum cleaner into my wallet and sucked it dry.

swirling textures on a wall of noise propelled by a beat that will make your pulse quicken. the first track, “chinese burn,” will make you want to star in a night-time car chase.

rollicking, anthemic power folk? yes. i think that’s right. of particular interest is “surf city eastern block” which can be found on an EP release of “no cars go” (i previewed it after my initial purchase but i figured i had already met requirements)

i think this band owes a lot to the american music club. the guy’s voice reminds me a lot of mark eitzel but less morose. either way it’s wonderful.
