These handmade Japanese woodblock prints are beautiful
The left cartouche means “Fur and claw, steel and flame”, and the right cartouche literally means “star” and “fox”.
The left cartouche phonetically reads “Rin-ku”, and the right cartouche means “He swings the Commanding Sword”.
The top cartouche phonetically reads “Ma-ri-o”, and the bottom cartouche means “Beloved friends, dear rivals”.
David Bull makes woodblock prints using centuries-old traditional Japanese materials and techniques. UkiyoeHeroes is an Etsy shop showcasing his work using those techniques to illustrate video-game subjects.
You can see him work here:
Penko Gelev on Instagram. Fantastic illustrations.
Ever Changing Horizon is Quin Schrock. He’s also on Instagram here.
Jim Fitzpatrick is the real deal. He’s been around since the 60s making memorable and beautiful art. He created the Che Guevara poster, and the iconic album cover for Jailbreak by Thin Lizzy among other things. His intricate, celtic-inspired illustrations are gorgeous.
